PRE-PROCEDURE

Before ANY procedure, please review the following advice and consult your physician if you are currently receiving treatment and/or are unsure if treatment is safe for you. All tattooing procedures carry with them the risk of injury and illness. Please ask your technician if you have any questions concerning these risks.

• Please do not drink alcohol or high quantities of caffeine 24 hours prior to and after the treatment.

• Where possible, try to avoid the following herbs and spices prior to your appointment: Black pepper, Cardamom, any member of the Zingiberaceae (Ginger) family, Cayenne, Cinnamon, Garlic, Horseradish, and Mustard.

• You are welcome to shave the area to be treated prior to the appointment.

• Skin that is in a state of regeneration, broken out from acne, psoriasis flair, shingles flair or burned will not be treated until fully healed. This includes scars that are not fully healed as well as acne within the scalp or burns over stretch marks.

• Do not have electrolysis for at least five days before and five days following the procedure in the area to be treated.

• Botox, AHA products, and Retinoids should be avoided for two weeks prior and two weeks following the procedure in the area to be treated.

• Exfoliating treatments such as microdermabrasion should not be performed within two weeks prior and two weeks following the procedure in the area to be treated.

• It is recommended to avoid acne medications in the area to be treated at least two weeks prior and two weeks after the treatment.

• Chemical and laser peels should be avoided no less than six weeks prior to procedure and the treatment area must be fully healed before any such treatments. Please avoid these procedures on your treatment area as you will lose healed pigmentation.

• If you are currently under the care of a physician for any type of Cancer and/or reconstructive surgery, please consult with your doctor (and bring with you permission from your physician to have the treatment performed). It is generally advised to wait at least six months to one year post-cancer or surgical reconstruction treatment before having any micropigmentation or needling in the treatment area.

• If you are prone to cold sores/fever blisters, you should take an anti-viral both three days prior to and after treatment.

• Please be aware that hormone therapies can affect your healed results and/or cause sensitivity.

• Paramedical treatments may require multiple application sessions.  Please be aware that color intensity will be significantly darker immediately after and lasts for a few days post procedure; however, the color may reduce by 30-50%.

• Although numbing cream and gel can be used during the procedure, sensitivity or discomfort will still be present. Your skin may be red and/or swollen after the treatment.

• Please inform Rachel immediately if you are allergic to ANY numbing product - specifically Epinephrine, Tetracaine and/or Lidocaine.

Please contact your technician directly if you would like to schedule a patch test appointment. The purpose of the patch test is to determine if any allergy exists to the pigmentation or ink used during the procedure. Patch test appointments take about 10 minutes and must be scheduled at least 3 weeks prior to the initial session. Patch tests do not guarantee the existence or in-existence of an allergy to any of the substances, pigmentation or ink used during the procedure.

*Please consult with Rachel if you have questions about the information above.

AFTERCARE

Each guest receives an aftercare kit that includes all of the necessities to care for the treatment area. Please follow the instructions as directed and contact Rachel with any questions and concerns.

*Please wash your hands with antibacterial soap before each cleansing.

Aftercare (without Barrier Film):

Day 1 - Wear the aftercare ointment that Rachel applied at the completion of your appointment and avoid harsh exercise, sun exposure, saunas and water (aside from your shower and bottled or distilled). You may use a cold compress on the treated area (with a clean paper towel or washcloth wrapped around the ice pack or compress). Please wear loose fitting clothing over the treatment area and do not wear a hat after SMP.

Days 2-5 - You may cleanse the treatment area 1-2 times per day using a gentle antibacterial soap, clean cotton rounds and bottled or distilled water. Always apply the provided aftercare ointment using a clean cotton swab after cleansing. Do NOT scratch, pick or rub the treatment area, continue wearing loose fitting clothing and continue to avoid chemicals, debris, water (outside of the shower) or sun exposure (outdoor and tanning bed) for up to 30 days in the treatment area.

In order to maintain the longevity of your results, please avoid chemical and textural exfoliants, harsh sun exposure/sunburn (always wear sunscreen) and moisturize the treated area daily.

***Swelling and bruising are possible and usually subside within 24-72 hours post treatment.
***Please avoid lake, river, pond, sauna and pool/hot tub water for at least 10-30 days in order to increase pigment retention and avoid infection.

Aftercare (with Barrier Film):

Day 1 - Continue wearing the Barrier Film and loose fitting clothing over the treated area. Avoid harsh exercise, sun exposure, saunas and water (aside from your shower and bottled or distilled).

Day 2-5 - Barrier Film is designed to wear up to 5 days and create the safest and healthiest healing environment. The Barrier will collect lymphatic fluid and ink and may become squishy. Do not pierce the film to remove the fluid. After 2 days, you may remove the Barrier Film and re-apply another sheet of Barrier Film if the initial piece becomes unstuck and begins leaking fluid. Removal of Barrier Film is most comfortable during a warm shower. After removal, gently wash the area with mild antimicrobial soap and dry with a clean cotton round. The area must then air dry for 15 minutes before adding another Barrier Film. Do not apply the provided ointment under the Barrier Film. Continue to avoid harsh exercise, sun exposure, saunas and water (aside from your shower and bottled or distilled).

Day 5 - You may remove the Barrier Film and no longer need to wear it. Allow the treatment area to dry for 45 minutes prior to applying the provided aftercare ointment. You my cleanse the treatment area 1-2 times per day using a gentle antibacterial soap, clean cotton rounds and bottled or distilled water.
